Breakthrough Manchester
/BREAKING THROUGH AND EXPANDING (Summer 2011). Breakthrough Manchester at the Derryfield School was awarded a multi-year grant to help expand the High School Program Coordinator position in order to provide individualized support for 200 high school students. The following results were recently reported:
*Increased the number of individual meetings with eighth-grade students and parents from 10 in 2009 to 26 in 2010.
*Tracked and analyzed the grades of 150 students on a quarterly basis to identify students who needed mentors and tutoring.
*Established a tutoring program and paired 14 students with 11 tutors who provided one-on-one homework assistance once a week.
Goals for the 2010-11 school year include engaging in a strategic planning process, conducting a survey of current or former high-school students to evaluate current and future services and building a database of community partners. An AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer will support the High School Program Coordinator to meet these objectives.
