CONTINUATION GRANTS
You may apply for a Continuation Grant on November 1 if your organization has received a Clowes Fund competitive grant payment within the past five years (2020-2024).
Continuation Grants are operating grants of $60K, $90K or $150K paid over three years ($20K, $30K or $50K per year, respectively); they address the Fund’s priorities for Immigrant Services, Workforce Development, Arts Education and K-12 Education. The Fund awards few $150K grants. Recent examples include funder collaboratives that re-grant to other organizations, grantees with a statewide reach, and organizations with ten or more years of Clowes Fund support. Staff will provide guidance about an appropriate grant size based on a Statement of Intent (SOI); such guidance may be based on organizational budget, alignment with Fund priorities and/or grant history. Contact your program officer before applying for a $150K grant.
Your first step is to submit a Continuation Grant Statement of Intent via GOapply. We encourage you to start the online application in advance of the November 1 deadline! Staff can best answers questions and address technology issues if you work ahead of the deadline.
A Continuation Grant Statement of Intent consists of:
An Application submitted online via GOapply; includes the question “How do you intend to use the Clowes Fund grant?” with a 1,000-character limit.
By mid-December, Fund staff will email detailed guidance. If invited, a Final Application will be due on February 1 via GOapply. Staff guidance does not guarantee funding.
On rare occasions, the Fund may award a grant for a specific program or capital project. Staff will provide guidance about times when such proposals are appropriate. Also, the Fund occasionally awards challenge or matching grants at the request of applicants.
Note: Grantees must take a three-year funding hiatus after receiving two Continuation Grants. The Fund will provide up to six years of consecutive operating support before grantees must take a three-year break. Introductory Grants are excluded from this calculation. We understand the challenge of a funding hiatus, but early and transparent communication is intended to help grantees plan for this time. We are committed to nurturing relationships with our grantee partners regardless of the funding cycle.
